Liberal Democrats

Curlew in Bog CottonOne would wonder why we have not had a response to this email either…sent in January at their request:

Dear Ms Knighton,
The letters to Sir Vince were hand written, and although I have kept scanned copies, I would prefer to reiterate my concerns again here.
Neither John Thurso, when he was MP for Caithness and Sutherland, nor Mr. Stone support the North Highland Way, except that I know that he did help the horse riders with a road safety measure. I am in fact at a loss as to why these two gentlemen, both Liberal Democrats, refuse to support such a venture.  Lord Thurso, as he is now, is a Trustee of the Queen Elizabeth Trust which administers matters concerning the Castle of Mey, and of course his own castle is on the route.  Nor did Lord MacLennan (also previously a Liberal Democrat MP) support the development of the Way, despite his property at Ham Farm is on it.  All of this leaves the SNP with a wide open field, as they ARE assisting with communications.  There is no Labour to speak of, or Conservative, of course, so if you are not careful, Scotland will become a one party state.
You can read about the North Highland Way in my book “Creating the North Highland Way” available at  I will be writing a sequel in 2020 and questioning why these gentlemen are not supporting the project.  Regardless of the fact that I now live in Ireland and have set up my business there, due to lack of support from the Highlands and Islands Enterprise and the Development and Infrastructure Director of the Highland Council, Stuart Black, I remain committed to ensuring that the project does go ahead.  I am of course an inward investor, not a voter in Scotland, a matter of which Mr. Stone is well aware.  I would also like to make you aware that I did complain about John Thurso to your office some years ago but nothing was ever done.
I look forward to receiving your comments.  Meanwhile, you may wish to look at my blog at and click through to the political desk.
